Being a frontline employee today means taking extreme risks each day in support of your clients’ well-being. Star Multi Care has recognized this sacrifice and as a thank you to their employees has participated in CROCS’ national campaign, “Sharing a Free Pair for Healthcare”. Through the generosity of Crocs and its sponsors, healthcare workers can receive a free pair of Crocs in recognition of their sacrifices. “We admire each of our employees and want to say thank you any time we have the opportunity”, said Stephen Sternbach, President/CEO of Star Multi Care. “We were fortunate in that we were able to secure numerous pairs of shoes which were distributed throughout our offices”, he confirmed.

Mr. Sternbach’s Company is comprised of six home health care branches located throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida. Each week the Company services over 600 clients and employs approximately 500 employees. The clients they service are generally the weakest and most vulnerable of the population, the elderly and disabled. Therefore, they are also the most susceptible to the COVID-19 virus.

Recognizing these potential hazards, home health care workers continue to enter client’s personal homes each day with the ongoing potential of exposure to the virus. “I am proud to be an essential worker”, said Elizabeth Behm, a Home Health Aide from the Allentown, Pennsylvania branch, Extended Family Care.

This pride is felt by the entire Star Multi Care management team. “The true heroes are our field staff”, stated Mr. Sternbach. “We have done everything we can to assist the employees in mitigating any potential exposures”, he continued. “We continue to monitor the situation, update our procedures and secure the PPE (personal protective equipment) necessary to keep our employees and clients safe”. “These employees risk their own lives every day to help others so we try to treat them like the ‘Super Stars’ they truly are”, he continued.

Star Multi Care has been providing home health care services since 1938. Services are available for children and adults. For more information, please call 631-956-8835 or visit them on the web at www.starmulticare.com.

About the author: Carole Chiego
Carole Chiego became a member of the Extended Family Care team in January, 2008. Prior to her role as the Administrator of the Allentown office, she was the Area Director of Operations for a home care company in East Orange, New Jersey. Carole’s extensive experience in home care spans over 17 years. Her work ethic and desire to succeed in the industry are evident in her advancement within the field ranging from Scheduling Coordinator to Medical Records Coordinator to Branch Manager and finally to Administrator and Area Director. She believes assuming these roles has made her a more effective manager. Carole gained most of her formal managerial training by attending Pennsylvania State University in pursuit of her degree in Health Policy and Administration. She attributes her informal training to have been acquired on a more personal level. Carole understands first-hand what families may experience when allowing a home care provider access to their home while providing care to their loved one. She was a caregiver for two of her grandparents until their passing and believes in the importance of allowing family members the opportunity to remain in the comfort of home if they so desire. Carole is also the mother of a child with multiple medical conditions who requires nursing services in the home. It is because of her personal experiences that Carole understands first-hand how important it is to manage a quality, high-integrity home care agency in which clients and families can place their trust and be confident they are receiving the best care possible. Carole also believes in the importance of giving back to the community. Therefore, she volunteers and spear-heads fundraising activities for a variety of charitable and professional organizations, namely the Pennsylvania Home Care Association, Autism Speaks and Avengers Baseball, Inc. Carole, a resident of Lehigh County, is married and has 2 children. In her free time, she is the “team mom” for her son’s tournament baseball team, enjoys cooking, spending time with her family and friends, and is an avid NY Giants, NY Yankees and Penn State football fan.
