Are you grabbing fast food more frequently?
When you’re rushing to work in the morning, swinging by your elderly loved one’s house to check in on them, what you do for breakfast? If you don’t take time to make a healthy meal at home, you might either skip it, grab a nutrition bar, or grab something at your local coffee shop. That’s not going to be healthy.
In the afternoon you might be working through your lunch break because you have to skip out a little early to go back over to your loved one’s house to check in on them, help them get settled for the evening, and do all that before you finally get home when you can finally crawl into bed at night. For those afternoon and evening meals, are you grabbing fast food again?
You just don’t have time.
This is one of the most significant excuses people make when they don’t eat healthy. “I just don’t have time.”
Maybe not, but if that’s really the reason you’re not taking care of yourself, it’s time to step back and realize there are other options. Sit down and talk with this other family member, the person who relies on you, and explain the challenges you are facing. Discuss the prospect of hiring a home care aide to help, even if it’s just for a couple of hours a day, maybe even just a few days a week.
That can give you the time you need to slow down and begin focusing on a healthy diet for yourself once again.
