respite awareness which was made possible through the Alliance for Community Respite Care (ACRC) a division of service provided through Community Living and Support Services (CLASS).

The evening event was held at CLASS in Swissvale, Pennsylvania and included informative updates from Jill Kagan, Program Director of the ARCH National Respite Network and Resource Center, as well as professional panel dialogue from industry experts featuring both advancements and government updates involving respite care.  A light dinner and refreshments were served in addition to allowing all attendees the opportunity to visit local respite professionals’ booths during the vendor fair. The event was free of charge and open to the public.

“The event is always well attended and has continued to flourish each year”, stated Laura Partridge, Business Development Manager for Extended Family Care.  “I have been on the ACRC Advisory Board for the past 5 years and look forward to this event every Fall”, she continued.  “We are thrilled to see the community involvement growing steadily each year thanks to our core supporters like CLASS, the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children and The Watson Institute’, she concluded.

Over the years the core team of the ACRC Advisory Board has expanded to receive additional support from Care Unlimited, Allegheny County Department Human Services, MS Society, ACHIEVA, Extended Family Care, Pediatric Specialty Care, Special Kids Network and Hope Grows.

In 1997 ACRC was formed as a network collaborative comprised of families, providers and stakeholders dedicated to providing community education about the importance of respite and how families can access care.  The mission of ACRC is “to provide support and relief through access to respite care for caregivers of children and adults of all ages with special needs”.

ACRC continues to gain support each year as the value and need of caregivers to receive respite care continues to rise.
