Did You Know? October 3rd was World Smile Day

You’re still young, you haven’t yet reached your 70s, but you have a family member who has. You know that they require some type of elder care, such as home care for the elderly, and you think that this means the best years of their life are over. You feel bad for them and wish there was something that you could do to make things better.

Smiles for Elder Care in Allentown, PA – It doesn’t Cost Anything

You’re still young, you haven’t yet reached your 70s, but you have a family member who has. You know that they require some type of elder care, such as home care for the elderly, and you think that this means the best years of their life are over. You feel bad for them and wish there was something that you could do to make things better.

There is. You can smile for them.

That’s right, even though you assume that the elderly individual is feeling sorry for themselves, wishing that they didn’t have to contend with the physical limitations or health crises that they have on a regular basis, it doesn’t mean that their life has come to an end. It also doesn’t mean that they are unable to do anything at all.

Unless they are in a coma and unresponsive, there are still plenty of things that a person of any age can do. They may require assistance to do those things, but with the right level of home care for the elderly, they can still do them.

Far too many people (including the elderly) assume that just because they reach a certain age and they have trouble getting around that they need to give up on activities, visiting with friends, and doing other things they enjoy. They don’t have to. With the proper level of assistance and thanks to modern technology, it’s entirely possible to do almost anything.

October 3rd is World Smile Day and that means it’s the perfect time to think about all of the positive things that you can celebrate with and for the elderly people in your life. Take time to spend a day with the elderly individual in your life. Celebrate the joyous moments that they have had and ask them about the things that they may still want to do.

You may notice that your elderly loved one is depressed. It can be tough to lose physical abilities over time. Sometimes just the love and support that we have around us, and a few wonderful and well-placed smiles can make a world of difference.

We shouldn’t need a reason to smile in life. It truly is a gift but once in a while it’s nice to be reminded that it is. For the person in your life who relies on or requires some type of elder care, remember to smile at least once this week, just for them
