Melissa’s story
Rob and Janice had waited so long for Melissa to come. They were so excited to have their baby girl after Janice had gone through 3 miscarriages. They were awaiting their joyous day when Melissa was suddenly born at only 26 weeks. She had only weighed 1 pound, 7 ounces at birth. Melissa spent 5 months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before being transferred to a different hospital where she spent another 4 ½ months of time. Rob and Janice were elated when they finally had the green light to take Melissa home.
Now Melissa is 20 months old and she plays happily on her living room floor, attended to by her pediatric home health care nurse, Sasha, while Janice is helping her 6 and 8 year old sons with their homework and Rob is at his office. Sasha and another nurse together spend 12 hours a day with Melissa, monitoring her ventilators and tracheal tubes which help her breathe. Janice works full-time during the days while her sons are at school. Melissa is a happy little toddler who scoots around and plays with toys and makes her family laugh.
Rob and Janice couldn’t be happier with their health care nurse. Melissa seemed to just take to Sasha and be so delighted every morning when she came. It was a decision Rob and Janice didn’t take lightly but they haven’t regretted it for one minute. It allows Rob and Janice to spend time with all of their children and for Janice to keep her job which she loves.
Pediatric home health care put kids first and provides exceptional care for your child. They are there when you need help.
