It’s been a challenging year. You’ve helped your parents through changing health conditions, low points, and even some high points. You’re starting to move on from New Year’s resolutions, but did you miss anything in the process? Did you ever stop to celebrate all that you’ve accomplished? Have you considered bringing in home care services for some respite care?
It’s time to celebrate everything you’ve done to help out your parents, your children, your work, and others in your life. You’ve done a lot, and you’ve probably done it all by pushing some of your self-care aside. If you’re spending only an hour or two every day for yourself, make that change.
Let Others Cook Dinner
You’ve cooked many dinners in the past year. Get the family together and ask everyone to bring a dish. You’ll love spending time together, but the pressure is off. You don’t have to cook or clean for a change.
Have a Spa Day
When was the last day you let yourself get pampered? Have a spa day and return invigorated. You don’t have to pay for spa treatments if it’s not affordable. Purchase some treatments at area stores and do them at home. Run a bath, put on a face mask, light some candles, and relax for an hour.
You’re feet often take a beating from walking around so much. Look for foot peel products. Wear the booties for the recommended time, and wait a few days for the skin to start peeling off. As it does, apply regular moisturizers to keep your feet feeling soft.
Go For a Walk
Taking a brisk walk is good for the body, and it’s also a great way to clear your mind. If you can walk in the woods or another natural area, it’s proven to offer the most benefit when it comes to reducing stress.
If you hate walking alone, join a local walking group or volunteer to walk dogs at a local animal rescue. These agencies need volunteers, and it benefits both you and the dogs you’re walking.
Learn a New Hobby
Spend your hour or two each day learning a new hobby. You’ve always been fascinated by painting, so get some basic supplies and follow an instructional video. See what you think. If you love it, make this a hobby you enjoy regularly. If it’s not your thing, try something else.
Knitting, baking, gardening, and reading are all hobbies that help you unwind and reduce stress. As you find the things you do and don’t enjoy doing, make sure you’re spending an hour or two every day without interruptions.
