Senior Care: Walking Can Be Fun!

Senior Care in Mt. Lebanon PA

It is important to ensure that your senior loved ones are both physically and mentally healthy.  Walking 30 minutes per day can significantly help them reduce their odds of falling while gaining strength.  To keep your elder on an engaging fitness walking regime, we’ve organized a few ideas of where your senior can walk. This may help your senior loved ones who are received any type of senior care feel motivated to get outside and stretch the legs more often.

●     The Neighborhood – This is the easiest and probably most common place that your elder is going to go on daily strolls. All they have to do is lace-up and walk out. Neighborhood walking is great because your professional caregiver can easily accompany during their shift. The walks can even have a routine end at a deli or coffee shop for a little workout reward.

●     City Park – Know of a good park nearby? Don’t let it go to waste! Encourage your senior to walk some laps around the park and enjoy the environment of families, playgrounds, animals, and clear blues skies.

●     Hiking Trail – Many hiking trails offer more scenic views and opportunities to enjoy less common aspects of nature. For those who are bored with the regular neighborhood routine, hiking trails are the perfect way to mix it up and add some motivation to your senior’s walks.

●     Downtown Areas – Sometimes, nothing hits the spot like being in town square. Your city’s downtown area is the perfect place for your elder to do some walking (or some window shopping).

●     Beach or Lake – Does your senior live by any body of water? Whether it’s a beach, lake, or pier, nothing soothes the soul like a walk on the waterfront. From watching waves roll into the shore to enjoying a peaceful lake, water is always a great place to do some walking.

●     Town Festival or Fair – Whenever there is a seasonal festival or fair, it’s a great excuse to go somewhere new and do some exploring. Fairs are especially fun for your loved one in elderly care because they have no idea what to expect. If your loved one really wants to break from the mold of routine paths, have them try out a local festival.
